On the right side of the street a clay quarry owned by Sannini Impruneta Spa can be observed. It is a sedimentary clay of marine origin, characterised by a particular mineralogical composition, rich in carbonates, which offer structural and aesthetic characteristics such as low absorption, high mechanical resistance, resistance to atmospherical, chemical and physical agents, inalterability with the passing of time. The clay (originally grey) contains a significant percentage of iron oxide (about 5%), which confers, at the end of the baking process, the typical red colour of the Impruneta cotto.
